Paul Sergounine (b. 1984, Moscow) is a contemporary painter based between Tbilisi, Georgia and Düsseldorf, Germany. Raised in Germany, he studied International Management at Webster University Vienna, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2008. Following a career in international business, he established his artistic practice in Tbilisi in 2021.
Sergounine’s work examines the invisible structures that govern human behavior, including memory, attachment, repetition, power and instinct. Working primarily with oil stick, oil pastel and acrylic on canvas, he develops paintings through cycles and series rather than isolated works. Each series operates within a defined framework of restrictions, allowing visual systems to emerge, evolve and destabilize over time.
His current body of work, Mind Mechanics, explores psychological architecture through recurring forms, rhythmic accumulation and processes of excavation. Rather than seeking representation, the paintings function as traces of internal systems under pressure. The tension between control and disruption remains central to his practice.
Based between Tbilisi and Düsseldorf, Sergounine continues to develop large-scale series while pursuing international exhibition opportunities. His work is represented by Bruno Massa Gallery.
