I am Alexandra Semenova, a handcrafted lighting designer and illustrator. I dreamed of working with lamps since childhood, and now my dream has come true.
I was born and raised in Ukraine, in the city of Kharkiv. My journey in art began at the Repin Kharkiv Art School from 2001 to 2003. Then I continued my education at the Kharkiv Art Lyceum at the Academy of Design and Arts from 2003 to 2005. From 2005 to 2011, I studied at the Kharkiv Academy of Design and Arts, specializing in Industrial Design.
From 2009 to 2020, I worked as a freelance interior designer. Then, from 2013 to 2015, I simultaneously pursued the design of furniture from rare wood species. In 2016, I gave birth to twin boys, and my life changed significantly. Nevertheless, I continued to pursue design, and from 2020 to 2023, I began to realize my dream by creating lamps and illustrations themed around birds.
My love for birds is not random. They have become an integral part of my creativity and inspire me every day. In each of my works, I strive to imbue deep meaning and symbolism. Birds for me are not just images; they symbolize freedom and the strength to overcome difficulties. This passion for birds was born together with the inspiration that came from the very heart of my family.
My son, fighting against the challenges of his cerebral palsy, showed me strength and perseverance. Together, we have traveled a long path of treatment and recovery. My creativity became my stronghold, allowing me to get through this challenging period, as well as the aftermath of the war in Ukraine.
My son is a true bird enthusiast. He knows almost all the names and species of birds on our planet. Instead of bedtime stories, he prefers to read encyclopedias about birds. Thanks to him, I am immersed even deeper into this amazing world.
With respect, Alexandra Semenova. My soul is poured into each work, and I am ready to bring light and inspiration to every viewer. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this competition, and I hope that my creative energy will touch the hearts of the jury.
