Ophélie Selz
is a Swiss multi- and interdisciplinary artist. She turns to the senses to create
immersive installations that sit at the crossroads of
art, science, and
non-intrusive technology. Using
sound, electronics, textiles,
and olfaction among others,
she explores
notions of intimacy,
introspection, and sensory reminiscences. Furthermore, challenging Western’s
culture-nature dualism, she examines humanity and nature as a whole through the
prism of plants and crafts.
Since 2021,
Ophélie researches and develops projects to deepen her understanding of plants,
of the bond between craftsmanship and nature, and the dialogue between materials,
places, and scents. Interested in the use of natural substances and ancient
crafts such as plant dyes, she sees craftsmanship as a
counterweight to consumerism.
Additionally,
questioning the dense, frantic, and uninterrupted rhythm of Western life, Ophélie
analyses the expression of time in environments such as gardens, forests, and spiritual places, among others. With her
installations, she encourages slowness and aims to offer soothing and nurturing
moments where audiences have the headspace to open themselves to their inner
selves, other living beings, and natural elements.
In 2019, Ophélie completed a vocational training in photography at the School of
Applied Arts in Vevey. She
then continued
her artistic studies in
London, where she
obtained, in 2023, a BA in Fine Arts with First Class Honours and a diploma in
Creative Computing at Camberwell College of Art.
Ophélie
currently works in London and Geneva.
