Marlis Sauer – Photography
After completing her secondary education, Marlis Sauer studied Art, Theology, and German Studies in Cologne and Berlin. She then spent 18 years working as a teacher at various schools in Cologne.
From 1997 to 2017, she directed the “JugendArtgalerie” (Youth Art Gallery), an innovative project aimed at fostering creative talent among students. Supported by renowned public sponsors, the project enabled exhibitions in prestigious Cologne museums and encouraged artistic expression across photography, object design, and painting.
Since 2005, Marlis Sauer has been working as a freelance photographer. Her artistic work has been exhibited in galleries since 2008. In 2015, she initiated the exhibition series L’Art privée, followed in 2016 by the launch of the Kunstkönner initiative, which is dedicated to realizing a wide range of art projects.
In 2019, she founded the gallery BASEMENT 16 as a space for contemporary art and creative exchange. In 2024, the JugendArtgalerie project was revitalized, once again inspiring young people to engage with artistic creation.
Marlis Sauer lives and works in Bergisch Gladbach, near Cologne.
