Matteo Frattini (b. Milan) is an Italian-British artist working under the name onlysattva. His practice is a sustained cross-cultural investigation that moves between Italy and Brazil as its two poles, setting European classical traditions alongside indigenous and ancient visual languages and treating them as systems of knowledge in their own right rather than a hierarchy of heritage above decoration. The written word runs through the work as a third active element. Listening to the energy of a place, and working closely with local producers and artisans, is central to how the work is made.
He studied painting and sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan and holds a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. Recent projects include Ubud Open Studios in Bali and residencies at GlogauAIR in Berlin and Mabiang Seni in Bali.
