Maria Sargarodschi (b.1985 in Medgidia, Romania) is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Augsburg, Germany. After studying Political Science at the University of Bucharest she graduated from the National University of Arts Bucharest with a specialism in painting. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions in Romania including at the Curtea Veche, Bucharest and The Art Museum, Constanta. She has had solo exhibitions at Red Gallery, London in 2015 and Funkhaus Berlin in 2016. Her animations were featured in the documentary Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise (Fufoo Film 2016) and were mentioned in publications like: Nowness, TAZ Magazine and The Guardian.
Artist Statement:
My work emerges from common shapes I choose from every day life, searching for their inner drawing. Familiar objects become cryptical motifs and gain an unexpected semantic value, resembling archetypes or things that “the mind already knows."
