After years of working and studying abroad in cities like Berlin, Munich, Oakland and Granada, he have decided to return to his home in the Basque Country. Although he have built. his professional career as a musician conducting orchestras around the world, he share now a studio in the center of the city pursuing his lifelong passion for painting.
As an artist he has studied Fine Arts in several places including the University of Granada and the School of Arts and Crafts in Vitoria-Gasteiz, as well as various drawing and painting workshops in Berlin and Bilbao. He has presented solo exhibitions in Almeria, Granada, Vitoria, and Irun, and currently has several works on display from his series “Lilik” in El Local 12, a gallery located in Mojacar (Almeria, Spain). He also has a group exhibition currently up in El Pilar de Lubrín, running until December.
As a musician, Iker is the artistic and musical director of BilbaoSinfonietta and Opus Lírica, and has conducted orchestras such as the National Orchestra of Catalonia, Bilbao, Basque National Orchestra, Principado de Asturias, Tenerife, Oporto, Bayonne-Côte Basque, City of Pamplona, Montenegro, Concentus Alius Berlin, Oviedo Filarmonía and the Humboldt University Orchestra of Berlin. In the field of stage music he has conducted titles such as "Die Zauberflöte" and "Don Giovanni" by Mozart, "L'Elisir d'Amore" by Donizetti, "The Seven Deadly Sins" by Kurt Weill, "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo, Dido and Aeneas by Purcell, Pierrot Lunaire by Schönberg, "The Sneaky Squirrel" by N. Rota, among others. His recent recording for IBS Classics, "Falla 1915" with BilbaoSinfonietta and the singer Maria Toledo, has been awarded with the MELOMANO de ORO and was recently nominated for the ICMA (International Classical Music Award).
