Samuel Haettenschweiler born in 1976 in Zug is a multidisciplinary artist
currently based in Zurich and Bern. Guided by an interest in urban space
and architecture his practice involves photography, sculpture and painting.
Many of his works were created for a specific context and are shown
in public space. With his work he investigates how architecture shapes
society and how society influences architecture.
Son of the well-known typographer Walter Haettenschweiler, Samuel first
followed in his father‘s footsteps as a graphic designer. Later he studied
Art Education and Art in Context in Zurich and Berlin and is currently
in the transdisiplinary Masterprogram in Contemporary Arts Practice at
Bern University of Arts.
Haettenschweiler was awarded with a scholarship from Canton Zug and
residency grant in Berlin. His works form part of private and public collections
such as City of Zug, Canton Zug and Zurich University of Arts
among others. His work was publicated at Lars Müller Verlag, Hochparterre,
ETH Zurich and was shown at International Festival of Animated
Film in Spiez, Kunsthaus and Chollerhalle Zug, Berlin University of the
Arts and widely in public space in Switzerland.
