I’m an experimental artist based out of Bangalore, India. Over the years I have explored the various mediums art can offer and along the way I found myself seeking innovative ways to utilize everyday materials to create different perspectives of how art can be manifested.
From a young age my passion for art first started during my school classes where I would grasp at the opportunity to pick up a pencil or brush to draw or paint. At one point my fascination with drawing extended to temporarily tattooing my friend’s arms and I had dreams of becoming a tattoo artist but soon after that I started University and for the time being art took a backseat.
It wasn’t until I was 25 when I was working in a studio as a recording engineer that one day my sound card blew out. Despite that meaning no work for two weeks it was a blessing in disguise as those weeks sparked my interests to get back into water color painting again. From there, I was pulled in a different direction to continue to experiment with other mediums which is when I came across tape.
I started experimenting with different tapes and canvas, but the magical moment was when I discovered how ordinary brown packaging tape could be layered to create wonderful sepia toned portraits when the lights captured the back of the artwork. By manipulating this concept of light, it gave the portraits a completely different perspective once the light catches.
I fell in love with tape art and ever since I have wanted to share this medium with the world. I wanted to exhibit how we can take ordinary items and create something beautiful with them. For me, art is all about perspective and how we look at things differently to allow ourselves to be open to how others may view or experience art.
So far, I have had a great response from people who have seen my work and that has inspired me to pursue this journey as a creator, making more art and continue to experiment with other ‘typically unconventional’ forms of mediums including (recycled) plastic, electronic waste, and glass. Particularly within the current environmental degradation I have collaborated with different artists and organisations in creating large scale art installations out what would be considered to the public’s eye ‘junk’ as a way of raising awareness towards climate change and the importance of minimizing our material consumerism.
