I paint abstract, geometric and colourful pictures by hand with acrylic paints.
How did the need to paint arise? And how did the subject come about?
Parallel to my work as a professional graphic designer, I studied the optical perception of shapes, the harmonious use of colour combinations and the meaning of colours until I became a teacher. Aesthetic balances that I had been applying in my work for years, more subliminally than consciously.
From these studies came my series 'Rotations of Circles'.
It is a composition of intersecting circles of different sizes. The centre of all the circles is at the horizontal centre of the painting.
The final composition is a series of sectors that can be viewed separately or traced back to the basic circles.
At first glance, the composition may seem purely decorative. But it has a centripetal force that captures and concentrates the gaze within the painting, an almost hypnotic invitation to 'enter' the interior of the work, to remove oneself from everyday life in order to allow feelings of wellbeing and tranquillity to flow in.
(From 1997, I'm fonder partner of the studio Rebelot, specialised in graphic design and illustration.)
