Gianluca Rona was born in Pavia in September 1983. His interest towards
photography has been clear since his childhood, when he received his first camera at
the age of 8 years old. After a first period when, as expected, photography was lived
as a game, as an unconscious experience, a feeling became stronger and stronger, that
with his camera he had the power of making time still, a time that keeps rushing so
frenetically.
During his adolescence Gianluca approached to music, starting playing clarinet, and
leaving photography for a while.
That while got to an end at University, which can be defined as his real important
kick-off. Gianluca studied electronic engineering during the beginning of the crucial
digital revolution. That was exactly the time when photography totally became his
main aim, professionally and not only, meaning an integral part of his life. His first
work, titled The Butterfly Effect, was an overview of the evolution of the life of a
butterfly.
In 2008 Gianluca moved to Madrid and lived there for 2 years. In Madrid, with other
artists, gathered by the same overwhelming passion for the same art, he founded an
analogical/digital studio, named Ojos de Pez, located at one of the most renowned
social centers of the city. The members of the studio not only dealt with fieldwork
activities, but also faced a permanent dialogue about the possible and potential ways
to represent the world through the power of the image.
Gianluca moved back to Italy in 2010 and started his artistic work.
Mostly focus on the architecture and urban landscapes, trying to make a relationship
between the identity of the cities and his inhabitants.
Gianluca’s works have been published worldwide on some of the most important
newspapers and magazines.
Currently is living between New York City and Milan and he still developing his own
projects.
