Maria Elisa currently lives and works in Porto where she has been producing work in visual arts, mainly in stone sculpture.
She began her artistic studies at the Soares dos Reis School of Arts in Porto, where she studied Artistic Production specialized in Textile Arts (2012-2015). She then graduated in Sculpture by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2016-2019).
Participated as a guest student in the development of the project “Um Monumento para o Lousal” - public art project for the city of Grândola (2018-2019) and attended the Intensive Life Drawing Course at the Accademia del Giglio in Florence (2019). She was also part of the group exhibition “Open 284” at Coletivo 284 in Lisbon (2020) and the 11th International Biennale for Young Art in Vila Verde (2020).
Her work focuses on her relationship with various places and concepts such as fragility, origin, beginning and death, always strongly influenced by the visual and conceptual richness of the main material chosen - the stone. From there, she establishes relationships and dialogues between organic fluid forms, and the firm and rough texture and symbolic meaning of limestone or marble. Her pieces resemble seeds and fruits but are mainly grenades. They emane the very beginning, what exists before creation, already ready to explode.
