With a Masters Degree in Fine Art Sculpture (NCAD Dublin), Emer Roberts gradually transitioned from a large scale sculptural process to luxury fine-art jewellery. Emer’s aesthetic evolved with her exploration of our fellow mammal—the rat. Her unusual, multi-award winning Wearable Biology designs are the culmination of the artist’s exploration of this mammal species through various sculptural and mould-making processes over the last twelve years. She continues to navigate the non-human animal with molding techniques and casting in multiples of birds.
This year, the Starling Murmuration piece was displayed alongside the Irish Jewellers and Silversmiths Guild IJSG (of which Emer is on the executive board) within the permanent silver collection of The National Museum of Ireland. In 2024, Emer was invited by The Michelangelo Foundation to the Homo Faber Guide which celebrates and promotes European master craftsmanship. Receiving the prestigious RDS Craft Award in 2023, Emer’s Nouveau Jaw Statement Neck Piece was shown the same year at COLLECT London, the international art fair with DCCI PORTFOLIO Critical Selection 2021-2022, a biennial publication and exhibition of leading Irish contemporary design and craft. Shown previously at the Irish Pavilion Dubai Expo 2021, Emer’s neck piece was awarded the 2021 Accessories Designer of the Year Award in the Fashion and Textiles category with the Institute of Designers Ireland (IDI), of which she also won in 2019 for her Wearable Biology — Tail Collection, amongst other awards.
