I am an Italian sculptor based in London. I studied
Sculpture at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa and the Academy of
Fine Arts in Brera, Milan, before furthering my training in Paris and London.
These diverse experiences have profoundly shaped my approach to sculpture. It
was in Genoa, under the teachings of my sculpture professor Massimo Chiappetta,
who is now a friend and mentor, that I committed to the art of sculpture.
In 2020, I was commissioned by the Salesian community to
create a permanent, site-specific installation for the Museo Casa Don Bosco in
Turin. Since then, my work has been exhibited across the UK at venues such as
the Saatchi Gallery, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Thompson Gallery (2023),
and On Form at Asthall Manor (2022). Additionally, I completed a public
monument in the municipality of Serra Riccò, Genoa, as well as a commission for
Eighty Strand in London, both in 2023.
My sculptural practice explores the ability of the sculptor
to bring measure and form. I am drawn to working with stone because, in a
metaphorical sense, it is infinite. A stone can be small, large, or as vast as
a mountain: it possesses an immeasurable quality. Yet, a block of stone has
dimensions, proportions, and limits; it is already a sculpture.
I imagine this dense matter as a dark and undefined space
that envelops everything. It is up to the sculptor to provide orientation,
movement, and direction; only then can the form reveal its boundaries and the
surrounding space. I choose this approach in an attempt to free myself from
conventions and to take nothing for granted, not even space.
My intention is to translate what I feel, touch, and see
into the language of sculpture. Through my work, I seek to capture the essence
of my perception and invite viewers to engage with it in a contemplative way.
