Elana
Rey (Elena Ermakova Ermakova) is a contemporary artist working in Spain. She was born in Moscow
into a family of engineers.
From an early age, she showed a talent for painting and studied at the art
school in Krasnogorsk (1970–1974). Despite her artistic abilities, at the
insistence of her parents she received an engineering education at the Moscow
Aviation Institute, where she specialized in automatic control systems for
aircraft. For more than ten years, she was engaged in scientific research at
leading technical universities and research institutes in Moscow, preparing a
dissertation.
In the 1990s, Elana established herself as a top manager in the financial
sector, heading a management company operating in the securities
market.
Despite her successful career, she never abandoned her creativity. In the
2010s, she fully focused on art, receiving additional education in contemporary
art, neurography, and interior painting (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny
Novgorod).
Today, Elana Rey works with painting, assemblages, collages, and installations,
creating works that explore the social, political, and cultural transformations
of the present. Her artistic language is based on a bold combination of
materials and techniques, the search for new forms of expression, and
philosophical depth.
Since 2011, she has lived and worked in Palma de Mallorca.
Her works have been exhibited in Spain, Switzerland, France, and Russia, and
are included in many private collections. Elana is a member of the Creative
Union of Artists of Russia.
In her art, Elana Rey seeks dialogue with society and reflects the changes of
time and community. Through her works, she speaks about the fragility and
strength of human experience, and about the necessity of rethinking cultural
and social codes in the era of global transformations.
