I’m a London-based conceptual artist with an architectural background, inspired by the quality of workmanship, attention to detail and the tactile nature of work produced produced during the Arts & Crafts movement.
My work alludes to strength, versatility, inclusivity, bravery and rebirth, with a nod to nostalgia, or to the wistful elusivity of an unlived past.
It resonates with living an authentic life, and challenges the disapproval channelled in the general and social media towards authentic lives, lived against considerable barriers.
This series of work presented itself abruptly to me following a visit to an exhibition in Barcelona in the summer of 2023:
"The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules but by people following the rules. It's people who follow orders that drop bombs and massacre villages." Banksy
Raised as an inherent rule-follower, art allows me to explore and question societal rules. Themes include beauty standards, domestic violence, and aging, among other topics. I stand in awe of human resilience: people endure unspeakable experiences that should have broken them beyond repair, yet they continue.
“If you have an idea you’re excited about and you don’t bring it to life, it’s not uncommon for the idea to find its voice through another maker…because the idea’s time has come.” Rick Rubin
