Originally from Germany, Petra Rakebrandt always knew she needed sunshine and beaches. At the age of 38, she finally found the courage and inspiration to leave her life as an engineer and managing director behind and moved to Guadeloupe. That step has not only opened up more studies to become a holistic life coach and energy healer, but it has also revealed her dormant creative abilities and she finally returned to her passion for painting. In the summer of 2018, Petra attended art classes in Florence and subsequently engaged in painting on the island. This catapulted a lifelong love affair with the discipline. Her art is strongly influenced and inspired by her work as a coach and healer. Her work she hopes will inspire healing, self-expression, and finding inner truth and her portraits communicate existential philosophies through engagement with the intense gaze of her subjects. Over the years her work has developed from realistic approaches to a more abstract style of expressing feelings, emotions, or soul-beings and she is always on a search to find self, personal growth, and change. She participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Guadeloupe. Petra likes creative writing and is the author of a published self-help book: “Yin is the new black”.She states: “I like to think of myself as an Energy Artist, someone who uses many different tools to help others to paint a beautiful new version of life; one filled with colour, vibrancy and joy”.
