After graduating from law schooland studying, one year in fine art, Catherine Poinson had been working in the printing business for many years when she got her first reflex camera. It was love at first sight and she fuly delved into photography from that point.
Self educated photographer, she initialy specialised in artistic portrait and street participated in various exhibitions from 2010 onward.
In 2018, she redirects her focus towards plastician photography.
She departs from qualities usualy asociated with clasic photography such as scarcity, instantaneity and eye witnes acount to dive into a much wilderworl do fimages where she organizes the space, the subjects, and the objects as an original creation. Her opus“EnnoirRVB”is the fruit of this artistic move where the final print in first and fore most a unique composition.
Her work is more based on strict timeles constructions in which the pursuit of form, meaning or mater is very close to painting or sculpture. Her stil-life pictures are awkward, colorful, fanciful, imaginary. Harmony can come out from either the similarity in shape, style, color, or the extreme hete- rogeneity of the basic ingredients.Components are rare, common, ancient, contemporary, kitsch, conservative, floral,or eatable.
Black background and verticality are the only rules she imposes to herself. She“carves”short life scupltures and polishes them with studio lightings before shooting them.In her quest to capture the light, she utilizes a special printing method which encapsulates the vividnes of the colours on to the metalic support. There's ultis generaly as bright as astarin the darksky.
Arbitrarily, she can use al the tools of the digital photography to highlight the aesthetic, pictorial, poetical, freaky, fantastic aspects of herworks:one way to tickle the imagination, the rationnality and the memories of the artlovers.
