It was relatively late in life that a paintbrush found its way to me, a qualified chemical engineer who had worked in environmental protection for many years. This has made the relationship that has developed all the more intense and enduring; along the way, we have undertaken – and are still undertaking – various courses at independent art schools in Trier, Mainz and Wiesbaden.
I now work as a freelance artist, exhibit both locally and further afield, and am represented by various regional and national art associations.
Artistic Statement
Perceiving and reflecting – in a complex world inundated with news and images, painting offers me a space for creative engagement and self-expression. A space that is often filled with humour, because ‘without humour, everything is nothing!’.
These forays into the here and now are transformed into imaginative, mostly figurative works that explore many facets of existence. My focus is particularly on the impact of human activity on this planet and on ourselves. Sometimes, however, playful lightness and creative wit take the upper hand. All of this is realised in colour-rich, surreal acrylic or oil paintings, with varying degrees of humour – surprising, strange, whimsical.
