Ivan Perera (b.1993, Cuba) is a visual artist based in TN.
His multidisciplinary practice draws on literature and historical
research, spanning sculpture, installation, photography, and drawing.
His work often investigates the tension between personal memory and
collective history through poetic material gestures.
He studied at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana, Cuba, from 2013 to 2018, and has
participated in workshops in partnership with the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in
2017 and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany, in 2016.
Ivan has completed residencies at El Espacio 23, Miami, FL (2023); The Pocantico Center of
the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Tarrytown, NY (2019); Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT
(2019); and Sorojchi Tambo, Fundación Cinenómada para las Artes, La Paz, Bolivia (2018).
His work has been exhibited at El Espacio 23, Miami, FL; Pan American Art Projects, Miami,
FL; Platoon-The Global Creative Alliance, Seoul, South Korea; The Havana Biennial, Havana,
Cuba; The Ludwig Foundation, Havana, Cuba; Museo Nacional de Arte, La Paz, Bolivia;
Bienal Internacional de Arte de Bolivia SIART, La Paz, Bolivia; Burg Giebichenstein University
of Art and Design, Halle, Germany; Artista x Artista, Havana, Cuba; and Kunstlerforum, Bonn,
Germany.
