Hi, I’m Fank and I’m an artist... although it’s possible
that I’m just an alter ego... or maybe the existence of Fank is itself a work
of art? In any case, what I do arises spontaneously as a response to a period
of my life where I began to represent reality in a different way. My work is
cathartic, self-referential and reflects a need. However, due to the ambiguity
of the message, the viewer can interpret it in their own way. Some might say
that my art is “raw”, “disturbing” or “weird”.
To me, it’s just a rain of empathy and sensitivity poured onto the
canvas. This is why I studied and reinterpreted the style of one who made
empathy his strongest weapon but also his greatest weakness: Jean-Michel
Basquiat. Like Basquiat, Fank also prefers the use of poor materials, the use
of the word as a sign and the representation of archetypes and symbols to
convey an inner message. My influences come from a world I looked at innocently
as a child: comics, cartoons and pop culture. Once I grew up, this imagination
was tainted by a feeling of opposition to war, unbridled consumerism, and religious
fanaticism. These two worlds mingle to create a dystopian scenario of
society. This is who I am, what I do, and what I feel. the reason that pushes me
to create is to want to offer new food for thought and a new point of view, as dirty as it may seem.
