to voice the unity of spirit and matter, first and foremost through color and form.
To render a fullness art, and painting in particular, is for me both a striving toward
it and a kind of perfecting in one's full humanity.
Hence the kinship I feel with the person and work of Mark Rothko. He is a signpost for me—on my own path, within my own search.
Formally, these interests quite soon crystallized into geometric abstraction, simple,
archaic, polysemous signs and symbols; the intense agency of color (both material and as
light) across a vast painting field; in forms that most fully allow me to express the ocean
of sensations, feelings, emotions into which I set sail each time I stand before a blank canvas.
