Sandra Olivieri was born and raised in Friuli Venezia-Giulia, in northern Italy, living in a city right on the border with Slovenia, Gorizia.
She attended language high school and took a degree in Tourism at the near by university of Udine. These studies helped her considerably through her early twenties, which she spent mostly abroad, both studying, working and sometimes just travelling. Between 22 and 26 she took two masters (one in marketing and communication, the other in european integration and global studies) and lived in Spain, France, Germany and Turkey. These experiences would be fundamental in the development of her artistic sensitivity, later on.
After her second master she decided to pursue her passion for art and choose clay as her medium. She moved to Portugal and started working as a guide while attending two different ceramic studios, where she learnt how to sculpt and throw on the potter's wheel. As the pandemic hit, she lost her job and was forced to move back to her home town in Italy, where she immediately bought herself a throwing wheel and kept practicing through the lockdowns.
A few months later she got a job at a local ceramic studio thanks to her throwing wheel skills. She stayed there for roughly a year, after which she opened her own ceramic studio, Asperitas. She started a production of functional pottery in stoneware and porcelain, while also giving courses as well as producing and showcasing her sculptural work.
As of now, she works on building her business while she establishes herself as an artist.
