Born in Berlin in 1978, Maria completed a Bachelor in Textile Design in 2004 and went on to obtain a Masters in Arts Pedagogy and Practice from Goldsmiths University, London in 2015.
Maria started her career in interior design, creating printed fabrics for design companies across Europe. She then moved to Singapore where she had the privilege to teach Art and Design. It was during that time, inspired by travel, the juxtaposition of rich culture, patterns, architecture and colours, found all over South East Asia, when she started creating artworks and participated in exhibitions. Her artworks are influenced by the changing environments, cultures and architecture surrounding her.
Initially she used screen printing on fabric and paper as her main technique. She then moved on and experimented with a variety of techniques and materials such as collage, foiling and acrylic painting. In her current artworks she combines several techniques and materials and enjoys the unexpected and ever changing results. Maria experiments with the effects of adding and subtracting as well as textures.
