ABOUT ME
Susana Negre is a textile artist originally from Barcelona, Spain. Passionate about textiles, travel, and cultural exchange, her work transcends functionality to become a medium for storytelling and cultural exploration. Her practice transforms textiles into artistic dialogues, inviting viewers to perceive the medium as both material and metaphor. Through experimentation and conceptual research, she explores how textiles can communicate complex ideas, memories, and identities.
Educational Background & Training
Susana’s artistic foundation was built during 12 years in London, where she began her training at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), completing monographic courses in Art Direction, Photography, and Art Curation. She furthered her education in Barcelona at the atelier-school of renowned artist Teresa Rosa Aguayo. In 2021, she graduated in Plastic Arts, specializing in Textile Art and Design, from Escola Massana (University of Barcelona).
Artistic Philosophy & Process
All of her artistic pieces are handmade using natural fibers. Each work is developed through an in-depth process that moves from conceptual research to experimentation and final creation. Her work explores the essence of texture, color, and volume, drawing strong inspiration from architecture, sculpture, nature, and cultural diversity. As a conceptual creator, Susana continuously pushes the boundaries of material and texture, often integrating photography into her textile-based practice to transform space and interact with the viewer.

Artist Statement
"My artistic practice is rooted in the intersection of material and metaphor, using textiles as a conceptual language to explore identity, memory, and cultural exchange. Originally from Barcelona, my work transcends mere functionality, seeking instead to transform physical fibers into artistic dialogues that invite viewers to engage with their own histories.
I define myself as a conceptual creator who translates abstract ideas into physical form through a rigorous process of experimentation. My work primarily utilizes natural fibers and photography to push the boundaries of texture, color, and volume. I am deeply inspired by the structural language of architecture and sculpture, as well as the organic complexities found in nature and cultural diversity.
Having trained at Central Saint Martins and Escola Massana, my perspective is informed by a blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation. This duality has allowed me to present my work on a global stage, including participations in the 11th 'From Lausanne to Beijing' International Fiber Art Biennale in China and the Contextile Biennial in Portugal. Ultimately, my practice is a continuous search for how artistic pieces can transform space and spark profound human interaction".
