I am an Oslo based professional textile artist specialising in contemporary jewellery and modern arts. I finished my Masters degree in Vilnius Art Academy, textile department, in 2008.It all began in a pile of sewing thread. During my studies I found interest in art / textile jewellery. Over the years I’ve experimented with various materials and techniques, but always stayed loyal to crochet. I mastered the craft by pushing myself to use smaller and smaller hooks and thinner and thinner threads. Colour combination is essential in my work. I do not use sketches or patterns but rather create arranged thread combinations. First I create miniature textile art pieces and then I transform them into either jewellery, art objects or anything other that comes to my mind. It was never my goal to create hyper-realistic reality images. Rather, my goal is to create new creatures, new species of birds, plants. Birds are my emotions, metaphors. Sometimes it seems like I am mercilessly damaging them, but it's just injured emotions in my attitude. Mythical creatures, fictional fairy tales and inspiring colour combinations are important creative elements that converts Jewellery into amulet. Shapes evolve organically; impression of incompleteness is significant - scattered thread brings the jewellery closer to its owner, makes it more alive. You want to tie the threads around your fingers, you want to brush them, twist them, pull them, you want to tame them and make your own. It adds presence - awareness of here and now. My work has a macabre aspect to it. It emphasises fragility of beauty. As an artist I work in two fields - contemporary textile craft and visual arts incorporating contemporary textile and film. Context in my work is usually influenced by feminism and philosophical critique of capitalism.
