XI'm Alejandro Nahmad, a painter living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico. My work primarily focuses on abstract paintings which engage with the tradition of op art and geometric abstraction in order to create layered compositions. In my most recent body of work I'm incorporating subliminal images, drawn from nature, in order to address personal concerns about the troubling relationship between human society and the natural environment. By using hidden images I try to communicate more directly with the viewer's emotions and subconscious. In my art practice I seek to articulate a different way of being in which rationality, emotions and the natural world can coexist.
I was born in Mexico City and I am currently living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico. I have a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. I have a 15 year career in the contemporary Mexican art scene and I am currently represented by the Quetzalli Gallery in Oaxaca
