Born on the Alameda Army Base in California, traveling back and forth to Arizona for 44 years has allowed me to attain my diverse skillset. Graduating from South Mountain Community College in Arizona with several scholarships allowed me to receive training under Earle Linderman, Roosevelt (Rip) Woods and Dr. Eugene Grigsby at Arizona State University.
graduated with my bachelor's in fine arts with an emphasis in multi-media. I collaborated with several artists and was featured in art shows, in various cities in Arizona and developed a non-profit named Chars Spot. Chars spot was an after-school program for special needs and at-risk youth, which provided funding for research. Researching the effects of art on my specified populations became the focus of my career. So, when i was granted a partial scholarship, I enrolled into Notre Dame De Namur and received funding for my research through my grant proposal. I proposed that art is a healing tool for people dealing with trauma.
I obtained my second, my second masters in Marriage Family Therapy and an Art Therapy Certification with an emphasis in Trauma. With my newly developed skillset, I developed art therapy programs within several non-profits in California as well as train therapist /social workers on trauma informed techniques.
It's been an extremely rewarding career. I have returned to my first love, art., while I rehabilitate from a stroke. Art is the tool that is the center of my healing.
