My drawings and paintings are intended to create energy in its many forms: stillness, vitality, movement, opening, blocking, immersion. I do not think of them as "pictures of something" but as an invitation to an experience-- images that evoke feeling, stimulate the imagination and draw the viewer in.
My earliest memories. from that time in our lives before we have any idea of identity or ego, but know deeply who we are, are mainly about sitting and drawing. My education wandered, from a BA in Art History to a Master's in Film Production. I made films and was a Professor of Film Production at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec for more than twenty years, and then I stopped and turned to painting and drawing full-time. First, I spent two years studying classical realist drawing and painting technique at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy and did subsequent work with Irena Korosec, a master in color, in Montreal, Quebec. I have exhibited in solo, group and competitive exhibitions in public and commercial galleries in Canada, the USA and Italy., where I now live. My work is in private and institutional collections.
This year I saw myself break into new territory -- a return to abstraction, but not as a step backwards, rather as a spiral upwards and forward using all of my training and experience from years of realist painting and incorporating the techniques into a new form. I was able to accomplish this during and intensive period of work as an artist in residence at Draw International in Caylus, France.
Ho esposto in mostre personali, collettive e competitive in gallerie pubbliche e commerciali in Canada, Stati Uniti e Italia, dove ora vivo.
