ANNE MORTIER
Is a Belgian ceramicist living and working in France.
The love for ceramics began during her art studies at the University of Ghent.
Greek pottery was a huge inspiration and made her switch to practice pottery.
She obtained her masterdegree at Luca Shool of Art and Science also in Ghent(B).
Her work was exhibited in multiple exhibitions in Europe, Australia, China and the United States.
My artistic practice is focused on the qualities and bounderies of Porcelain clay. The pure stuff without any addition. I like the whiteness, the translucity and purness of the material, the soft touch when manipulating it. The possibilities the material offers are huge, endless and a constant motivation to push bounderies. I embrace experiment and rethink processes, start from scratch until the result matches the feeling I want to express.
Nature is my inspiration, especially life under the sea, so my latest pieces are threedimensional translucent watercolors. No glaze is applied, showing the beautiful naked skin of the vitrified Porcelain.
For me the journey is important, the excitement of discovery, trying to understand porcelain’s behavior, it’s stubborness and soal.
When I’ m lucky the white gold shows itself at it’s best : transparent, pure, frail, fragil and brittle like life itself.
