Miriam Herweijer set out at a young age from her native Switzerland into the wide world with an open, curious view. She made London, Paris, Madrid, Zurich, Vienna, Frankfurt, Geneva and The Hague her home. Her paintings are the result of all of her experiences in the many countries where she lived over the years. Nature, the smells and colors of local life, getting immersed into the lives of the locals, and visits to galleries and museums are her inspiration.
From banking to artPainting was not a natural choice for Miriam growing up. Born in a Swiss entrepreneurial family and studies of business management (MBA) in the banking world, her passion for painting was always strong, but for a long time it was on the side of a life in business. Miriam rented a studio in every country where she stayed to paint, and she attended art schools (including the De Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna). In this way she moved from the strictly framed world of corporate banking to a world that was boundlessly and endlessly inspiring: that of painting and art.
Miriam’s paintings are as diverse as the cities where she settled. Her portfolio contains abstract, non-figurative works that vary greatly in format, use of colors and materials (acrylic and oil paint). But there are also landscapes (especially from her native Switzerland), still lifes and nudes.
Although they may differ in appearance and theme (layers of being), the works are strongly interconnected; they evoke emotion and energy, in which the viewer eventually finds harmony for himself/herself and the environment.
