Daniel Mirchev DUNA is a well-established sculptor known for his
intricate and dynamic wooden sculptures. He has over 30 years of experience in
wood sculpture, a craft he began honing during his studies at the Sliven Art
High School, where he specialized in woodcarving. His work often explores the
interplay between figurative and abstract forms, leveraging the natural
qualities of plywood to create complex, flowing shapes that engage viewers from
multiple angles.
Mirchev's sculptures have been showcased in numerous solo and
group exhibitions both in Bulgaria and internationally. Notably, he has had a
significant presence in galleries such as the Macadam Contemporary Art Gallery
in Brussels and the Cube Gallery in London. Daniel Mirchev is expanding his
presence in the art world, now also being represented by The Boston art gallery
Lanoue, USA. His work has been part of various art forums and exhibitions
across Europe and America, and his pieces are included in private collections
in Western Europe, Canada, and the United States.
In terms of material and technique, Mirchev's choice of plywood
is particularly noteworthy. The layered structure of plywood allows him to
create new and independent lines during the sculpting process, which
complements the forms he envisions. This technique contributes to a harmonious
blend of volume and line, resulting in sculptures that appear both organic and
meticulously crafted. His work often plays with light and shadow, enhancing the
viewer's experience and interaction with each piece.
