Cristián Meza is a Chilean - Croatian visual artist, who currently lives in Zagreb and is dedicated to sculpture and painting; His artworks are inspired by images that he searches on the Internet, introducing concepts such as irony, sarcasm and even humor into them, to criticize the solemn form from there. In his artwork, he mixes the heartbreaking of the image, with the juxtaposition of elements not necessarily linked a priori, to be able to articulate them in the construction of an imagery overall provocative.
Through his sculptural and pictorial artwork, he seeks to question the “pertinent” image. His work confronts us with the tension between the dreamlike and the real, which he captures in the use of bright and vibrant colors, with the spontaneity of his pictorial gesture.
His work could be defined as a pictorial collage, in which the images together create a satirical and irreverent vision of everyday situations, carried by his brush to an exacerbation of the situations described to the point of irreverence. Likewise, his sculptural artwork responds to these increased characteristics and often taken to the extreme by the use of irony, but without neglecting the expressiveness and realism of his artwork.
It also has a large number of busts of men and women in which the care of the smallest detail reveals the ethos of the person. He is an artist who manages to push realism to the limit in the faces executed, without neglecting the naturalness of the expressions and the traits of each of the characters on display.
He has participated in multiple collective and individual exhibitions, held in different galleries and art spaces in Chile and abroad. He has also participated in the creation of artistic projects by renowned artists from the Chilean and international scene.
He is the winner of First Place in the twentieth version of the "Live Art Workshop" prize, "Excellence in Painting" category, held at the Museum of Fine Arts of Chile and First place in the contest for the design and execution of the Monument in Memory of Ex President of the Republic Mr. Patricio Aylwin Azócar also in Chile, which was recently inaugurated in front of the Palacio de la Moneda and which was attended by the highest authorities of the country.
