Born in Glasgow, a gritty and cutting edge city into a family of 2nd generation Italian Immigrants an artist mother and an engineering father. I left Scotland at 16, moving to London and following my pursuit of an acting career. Marriage and children followed and many years of working hard to make ends meet. We finally settled in Dorset, to a village on the Jurassic Coast, proving masses of inspiration from the stunning beauty that surrounds us. Influenced, inspired and haunted by a 'sense of place, a sense of belonging', the wild places stir my soul.
I have an affinity with the works of Cezanne, Turner and Da Vinci and modern giants such as Twombly, Hambling, Emin and Hepworth, and the poetry and lyrics of P J Harvey, REM and Robert Burns - these have given me many places to explore within my works.
A sense of Place, a sense of Belonging, how I describe my art, stems from my own sense as a 3rd generation Italian immigrant, born in Scotland, of never quite belonging. Glasgow was my 'village' of birth but I was not seen as Scottish, London mesmerised me but I was stunned by the loneliness I could feel amongst so many people, Dorset now, my home, provides space and beauty where people from so many different places have congregated to become a cohesive and inclusive community, creating our new world of belonging. My heart will always belong to Scotland and my soul sores most when in its majestic scenery but Dorset is so unimaginably beautiful, continuous delights for the eyes and now a place I can finally call home.
