Meaghan Matthews is a Franco-British artist who lives and works in Paris.
For the last 10 years her work has revolved around the three media ofpainting, photography and video. She questions in her works the changes in state and representation of figures.
The living material in movement is imagined, fixed, frozen, mapped closely toterrestrial cartographies. She invites us to doubt the nature of these changingforms.
Do they portray a landscape, a portrait, a cell ...?
The viewer’s questioning is the counterpoint to the artist’s own questionsabout the future of our ecosystem and an awareness that nature can no longerbe considered by our Western societies as functional and external to ourselves.
From 2012, as a consequence of her research and travels, Meaghan hasfocused her attention on ecological issues, the connections we make and theinfluences that we humans have on our environment as the source of life.
More specifically, she explores our connections to water, the main componentof life.
Her works continue the language of succession, of the traces left behind by materials in movement and their transposition.
Meaghan Matthews has worked more closely with ink and paint to «engenderthe accident and sculpt chance»; which reflects our connection to water andquestions the unpredictability of our actions on the world.
