Artist Bio 2026
I’m Christine Mathers Thompson, an abstract artist, Toronto born and have
been living in the Leeds Grenville area since 2005.
My journey to painting was nonlinear. Although I engaged with some art
practices intermittently over eight years, it was not until the pandemic that
a significant breakthrough occurred. Meeting Nicholas Wilton of Art2Life, a
well known international art teacher whose enthusiasm for bringing out the
inner artist that we all have ignited my focus and commitment, and I have
leaned daily and intensively into abstract painting over the past five years.
Studies with Robert Szot, an abstract artist in LA had really taught me to
lean into my paintings in a way that helped me get to finally clarifying and
accepting my own unique visual language. I want to give a nod to a one
day workshop and a drawing class with Andrea Mossop who taught me
something that resonated within in a way that shares the artist. Process is
one of the most fascinating things about art and in sharing and learning we
growth in unfathomable ways as human beings.
So my art is rooted in introspection, spiritual exploration, probing social and
emotional energies. I am inspired by affectionate shapes. My own visual
language comes from my pact to paint from feeling with a certain ambiguity
that allows the viewer the freedom to have their own inner experience
through feeling and imagination. I paint as all artists do, to understand
and to be understood.
My creative process is primarily instinctive. I translate emotions triggered
by current events and human interactions onto canvas, crafting a space to
reflect on humanity’s complex relationship with the natural environment.
Through abstract shapes and dynamic marks, her paintings reveal invisible
connections—linking people, animals, weather, and the subtle affections
present in these relationships.
My technique has evolved through participation in 3 month to one year long
annual Creative Vision Programs with Nicholas Wilton and by attending
week long workshops in Majorca and Marrakesh in 2021 and 2022. These
experiences have influenced the development of my distinctive abstract
style, merging organic and geometric elements to evoke emotional
resonance and encourage thoughtful visual engagement.My technique has evolved through participation in 3 month to one year long

My work has been displayed in regional venues such as On The Wall in
Medium Effort Fine Art Supplies, the Prescott Library,
Spencerville Muse Gallery, ClineHouse Gallery in Cornwall,
and Arts Hub in Brockville. She has also participated in
juried shows like the Brockville Juried Exhibition and the
2025 Fulford Place Juried Show in Brockville. Critics and
audiences have responded to her compositions as vibrant
and accessible interpretations of abstraction. I won The
Juror’s Award this year in the Annual Clinehouse Juried
Show in Cornwall and am presently honoured to be
accepted in to the Johnny Depp ,The People’s Artist
scheduled to launch for voting on May 4, 2026.
As I advance my artistic practice, I remain active in the community through
teaching art journaling , abstract art and involvement with the Art2Life CVP
Alumni and the Art2Life Academy. I am excited to see how this art practice
continues to evolve, pushing the boundaries inspired by a deep seated belief that Universe is affectionate and this expresses in an interplay and dance of affectu=ionate organic shapes.
