May Marie (b. 1988, UAE), lived and raised in Jenin - Palestine. Throughout her years in the academy, May’s fascination revolved around the complex popular culture and behaviors towards patriotic taboos and iconic symbols. Where she used various video techniques, such as film essay, performance, stop-motion, installation and found footage. May participated in various exchange workshops and projects internationally. Such as “Re:Territories” shown in Palestine and France, where she challenged the white cube and presented two site-specific pieces as social interventions. In 2016, Marei joined a workshop at the Irish Museum for Modern Arts in Dublin. Locally, Marei participated in “The Last Exhibition 101 ”, “Indigenous Voices” and “Practicing the Voids” exhibitions in Ramallah and was also a finalist at Ramallah Doc for Documentary Films. Marei holds a BA in Multimedia Technology and currently doing her second BA in Contemporary Visual Arts at International Academy of Art Palestine (IAAP).
May is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Video from Bard College in NYC in the MFA/ Summer programme. She is based in Ramallah, Palestine and working as a Visual Arts and Film Programmer Advisor at Goethe-Institut.
