伊吹-ibuki- is an artist who explores the transformation of human perception through the passage of time and relationships with others, visualizing the traces of these irreversible changes.
Using the chemical transformation of silver leaf as a metaphor and material process, Ibuki records the subtle ways in which perception is continuously rewritten, often without conscious awareness.
The leaf used in the work is created by hammering metal into an extremely thin and delicate form. While it appears fragile, it simultaneously retains the inherent strength of metal. Existing between vulnerability and resilience, instability and endurance, silver leaf embodies a duality that reflects the human condition.
This dual nature parallels the way individuals are shaped by external influences. Although people may be altered by their encounters with others, the traces of those relationships remain embedded within them, contributing to the formation of identity.
The discoloration of silver leaf is not merely a process of deterioration; it is the visible accumulation of time, an irreversible record of transformation. Human relationships function in much the same way.
The influences received through interaction gradually settle within the self, leaving traces that shape perception and character.
What silver leaf and human experience share is irreversibility. Just as silver leaf cannot return to its original state once transformed, human perception cannot fully return to what it was before being altered by time and relationships.
Rather than defining these changes as either progress or decline, Ibuki's work observes transformation itself, inviting reflection on the continuous and irreversible process through which human perception is formed, altered, and sustained.
