As a visual artist, place and our relationship to it, are integral to his practice. The interest in how we measure our time within it crucial.
The sense of awareness of place or how we ‘see’ somewhere, is bound in every sensory experience. It is freedom and not to be restricted or held within a frame. Sometimes an instant or the immediate, other times, deeper and historical. We walk in the footsteps of others, as others will walk in ours. The sun and moon return to the same places, the seasons return and let’s hope they do, in these increasingly troubled times, that we live with climate change. A place is never simply a view, it is an amalgam of multiple views and experiences, intergenerationally. By mapping and counter mapping space and place we acknowledge the past and signpost the future, we enable creativity and change.
