HANNAH MA Hannah Ma is a multi-award winning German-Chinese choreographer. Her focus is on contemporary rituals and the translation of archaic roots into our society as well as the (constant) search to analyze her "self", which she perceives as “hybrid”. Hannah was educated at the Conservatory in Vienna, at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart and at the University of Hagen (GER) and holds a diploma in classical dance. Hannah works with: Théatre de la Ville / LU (2017/2020), Théatre National Luxembourg (2015/2017/2021), Théatre d´Esch, Luxembourg (2017/2019), Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen / DE (2016), Festival Passages in Metz / FR (2017), Theater Trier / DE (2016/2017), German Consulate General / NY (2016), Arpmuseum am Rolandseck / GER (2016), Alter Schlachthof Eupen / BE (2017), Trois CL / LU ( 2015/2016/2021), National Art Festival Makanda / ZA (2019/2021), UJ Arts & Culture Department of the University of Johannesburg / ZA (2018/2021), MAC Creteil Paris/ FR (2018) and others. Her work "H.E.R.O.E.S " was chosen, evaluated and published by German UNESCO Commission and Bertelsmann Foundation in "Art in the Migrating Society - contributions of the arts to coexistence in diversity " as one of twelve German productions.
"H.E.R.O.E.S" has been awarded with several prizes such as the “Brückenpreis Rhineland-Phalatinate” (GER). Hannah's cultural-philosophical and anthropological interest applies to questioning the preliminaries of being human - beyond the social and cultural influences. She practices one with her team a “togetherness of bodies in space and time”, an unconditional state of being- together through wordless communication.
Hannah is a continuous member of the jury at the Conservatory in Luxembourg and works as a speaker at different panels worldwide.
Recently she was honored to contribute to the panel: “The Other Body - Dance and Rassismus / The Performative Political Body of today ” (Schillertheater Berlin, September 2020). The interview with Michael Freundt / Danceboard Germany in September 2020.
