Asmin Ma (b. 2000, China) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Dalian. With a Master’s degree in Interior Design from the University of the Arts London, she blends digital modeling, sculpture, abstract painting, and mixed materials to investigate bodily perception, spatial politics, and social systems of control.
Her recent series delves into the politics of organ commodification and the layered dynamics between the observer and the observed body. She often uses translucent resin, anatomical forms, and enclosed structures to express themes of surveillance, bodily vulnerability, and emotional opacity.
Since 2020, Asmin’s works have consistently returned to the human body as a contested site — from her early abstract reflections on body size and spatial limitations, to her research-based exploration of trans spaces in Pattaya. In 2022, she produced and edited a conceptual video performance reflecting interpersonal tension and reconciliation through circular movement and color collision — hinting at her growing interest in participatory abstraction and performative sculpture.
Her work has been exhibited in student-led group shows in China and the UK, and she has been awarded the Silver Prize in the 2022 Academy Cup for Interior and Environmental Design, as well as the “Most Communication Award” at her MA graduation show.
She is currently preparing for artist residency applications in Japan and Europe, aiming to further develop her exploration of body-politics and multi-sensory installation. Her relationship with space is not only conceptual — as someone who shares her home with rescued animals, she continues to reflect on intimacy, fragility, and co-existence in both physical and emotional environments.
