MM
was born in 1984 in Tuscany, Italy, to a
working-class mother and a railway worker father. He was raised for the most
part by his maternal grandparents, old farmers, and by his older brother, then a student in linguistic.
He
spent his school years drawing on his notebooks and textbooks, so that for him understanding
and externalisation end up going hand in hand. After compulsory schooling,
he wanted to study art, but his parents prevented him from doing so.
He reluctantly
attends the clothing and fashion section of a vocational school. For five years
he was the only boy in a class of girls in a predominantly male high school. He
nevertheless treasured his fashion studies, graduating in 2003.
As a major, immersed
in Kant, Nietzsche and Schopenhauer, he visited Europe with the
Interrail program, inaugurating a course of travel that has since grown
steadily. He visits many great foreign museums, as well as underground art
sites. He also explores new forms of graphic expression, which he keeps to
himself.
Passionate about
introspection, he spilled his first inner self-portraits onto paper. But his
drawings and paintings are mostly made in an untimely manner and on anodyne
supports, which are lost or damaged, others are abandoned on the spot or
offered.
After a two-year
university interlude, during which he lived in Florence, he
worked as a night porter, collected enough money and goes to live in Paris. He
learns French by working at the most disparate jobs, reading and leading a reckless
life.
A regular visitor to
theatres, galleries and museums, he made friends with a motley crew of
theatre-goers and art history students. Employed as a general salesman and
secretary in a shop specialising in low-tech inventions, he worked for six
years in the fields of design, patents and intellectual property.
After that, he undertook
the restoration of an old sailboat in the South West of France. From there he
headed for Brittany, where
he settled quite stably in 2018.
Until recently very
reserved about his artistic activity, he decided to show his creations under
the advice of the art historian who promotes his work since 2022. That same
year, his creations are exhibited in Carpentras; in Saint-Nazaire; at the
Ateliers de Bitche, in Nantes; and at
the Business Art Fair, in Paris.
The first monographic exhibition of MM has just taken place (October 2022). Discovering his figurative questioning on the theme of authenticity, many discerning visitors have assimilated his artistic approach to the NFT, but in the "real" world.
In 2023, MM is on
the programme: from 6 to 27 February at 4bis, in Rennes; and from
May 26 to June 11 at the Fort de Villès Martin, in Saint-Nazaire.
