Dita Lūse has received her art education in Latvia (MA, Art Academy of Latvia), Denmark and the US. Her artist's résumé includes around forty solo exhibitions, she regularly participates in group and juried exhibitions both in Latvia and around the world. She has received recognition in various art competitions, including the international Art Olympia competition in Japan, Art Revolution Taipei in Taiwan, Aviskar competition in India. The artist's works have also been selected by juries for internationally important art projects, such as the Beijing Biennale in China, Arte Laguna in Venice and twice for NordArt in Germany.
Dita Lūse works in the classical oil media, however her technique is thin and aquarelle-like, sometimes seemingly fortuitous, while at the same time conveying the idea of the work and the reflection of reality.
“I am interested in the way we perceive light and time. Light is always important in visual art, but I am interested in painting light as an object and time as the present, where memories of the past and the currently visible merge. And the work of art, if I succeed, captures the viewer and for a moment allows them to be outside the time.
The themes I work on evolve around this core. For example – sunlight in the old cloisters, where the past can be sensed. Flickers of light through the foliage breaking down the reality on the facade. The fragile structures of living creatures and plants, illuminated by the momentary and dispassionate light of X-rays. The flutter of lights in the meadow. Inherited memories, evoked by old photographs and letters, that emerge from the past and affect us today.”
Dita's works are in public and private collections in Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, USA, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.
