Louise Van Reeth is an art historian who graduated from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 2012. Since 2015, she has devoted herself to her own artistic practice focusing on gesture, process and the material. She favours natural materials (charcoal, earth, pigments, marble, stones, gold) to reveal the expressive possibilities of matter and inscribe herself in a tangible reality.
Each element is chosen for its singularity, intrinsic beauty and visual presence. The resulting narrative is personal to each individual. Roughness is sought after, as it corresponds to the living, natural and mineral world.
Nevertheless, several themes emerge, such as the search for immensity, our relationship with the landscape, and the notion of ascent and fall.
At the moment, the Reliefs series occupies the greater part of his work. Each Tableau-Relief is composed of a layer of earth taken directly from the landscape and a layer of intense chromatic material more akin to paint. They reproduce an atmospheric world of colors, reliefs and textures in which we can project ourselves and dissolve.
