Immersed in a coastal community on the northern beaches of Perth, Western Australia, with national park on one side and a pristine ocean lagoon on the other, I aim to create works that reflect society's existence, and effect, upon the natural world. I have for the most part excluded technology from my process and work in my backyard, on the grass, under the shade of a tree, with a slab of wood on a wine barrel as my work bench.
I am self-taught in partnering the fluid solidity of resin with the texture and visually lineal structure of plywood, utilising experimental techniques to solidify the two and also create a playful distance with gravity and magnetism.
In exploring the interaction between humanity, structure and environment, my sculptures attempt to provoke thought and discussion on the manner in which each impacts upon the other, promoting an awareness of our own perceptions and experience in order to share a fine balance within an elemental world.
To this end, I hope to reconnect the viewer to a thought, emotion or place, whether seen or unseen, triggering a recognition of the importance in which we live within our environment and nurturing a desire for sustainability and a natural equilibrium.
