As a visual artist, I was born in Henan province, China, in 1992. I received my BFA at Saint Louis University in Missouri, and I am a current MFA student of San Francisco Art Institute, California.
My work marries traditional handmade mark making with digital strategies to create drawings and videos exploring possibilities between traditional artmaking and digital artifice. Drawing with digital tablet, I shift imagery from a traditional tangible surface (i.e. paper, canvas) to computer screen. My inspirations come from Chinese literature, mythologies, and martial-arts fantasy. Communication with text and film props up my work with diverse forms of narrative and indigenous memories of cultural convention, whereas I preserve the artist’s hands by making drawings to reinterpret Chinese tradition with fantastical illustration and kinetic rotoscoping animation.
