My name is Itamar Lilienthal. I go by Ita. I am an artist + designer that works on both sides of the border region of Southern California + Baja Norte. My focus has always been around creating connections between art + sustainability and how that relates to local culture. In the past I worked for the company MycoWorks where I helped grow leather from mushrooms and was introduced to the incredible world of biomaterials.
These days I have a design house called Casa Tamarindo. We do a variety of work ranging from stage design, furniture, product development, and education workshop and events. Aside from all this I still maintain an artistic practice where I can try new things and carry out personal explorations.
Currently I have launched GUATA. A research and design lab focused on making fog harvesting feasible and culturally relevant in our bi-national region. I am doing this by designing engaging, functional art pieces that simultaneously capture fog (& other forms of water) while collecting data that will help us increase our harvesting efficiency.
