Read MoreAriana Leon is a sculptor and installation artist whose work confronts trauma, memory, and embodiment through the language of material and form. Her practice interrogates the aftermath of experience, translating rage into sculptural choreography that oscillates between exposure and protection, humour and horror, silence and confrontation. Through the concept of “leaky bodies” - fabricated, violated, or controlled openings - Leon examines how trauma inscribes itself upon both the self and the viewer, transforming victimhood into a site of power, resistance, and reckoning.
Leon’s work begins where words fail - at the edges of rupture, in the quiet after impact. Refusing spectacle, she traces the residue of trauma rather than reenacting it, creating wounded or permeable forms, flesh-like architectures, and objects that seem to remember pain. Drawing from the debris of childhood misinterpretation and the collapse of language under overwhelm, her installations use play and camp as disarming strategies - luring the viewer into moments where humour and horror meet, and where laughter becomes implication.
Leon holds an MFA in Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she was a Liu Shiming Scholar and Bunting Scholar, and a BFA in Photography and Video from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work has been exhibited in venues across the United States and Canada, including Gallery CA (Baltimore), The Delaplaine Arts Center (Frederick), Pen & Brush Gallery (Manhattan), Satellite Art Fair (Miami Beach), and the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival (Toronto).
