TAMI LIM LEDESMA is an artist and movement teacher from the Philippines who combines her curiosity for the human body and empathy for human connection with creative communication. She is self-taught in all mediums including medical illustration. She focuses on hands because they are the most honest and perceptible parts of the body. Hands show action, connection, and emotion – the pillars of her life. Her mission is to give presence to the intersection of mental health and artistic and physical expression, in order to reveal and heal the parts of our psyche we have a hard time facing.
Most recently, she has found her zone in pastel pencil, borrowing from sanguigna and chiaroscuro techniques. The combination of precise and delicate pastel with gentle watercolor wash has allowed her a gentle way of holding space for the emotions that are difficult to handle. Lately, she has been exploring the spontaneity of acrylic painting, inspired by Expressionism to push her artistic and emotional boundaries. Following raw and recent upheaval, creativity brought her back to life by using her paintings as a means of giving form to what her head and heart couldn't hold. She chooses to paint from her heart to her hands, knowing these emotions are both universal and unique, and beautiful in their signifying the fullness of being human.
