Lauryl Gaumer received her BFA in Spatial Arts from San José State University and continues to work in glass and metal throughout the Bay Area. Her work delves into the obssesive and addictive aspects of society that are often ignored. Modern media heavily focuses on the figure, leading to a driven desire to achieve a level of physical perfection. Media grotesquely alters the figure through photoshopped images, creating an unrealistic expectations for the body. The Unwearables series are objects meant to enhance the body while encouraging elegant posture through the confinement the figure. Although vexatious in nature, the wearable sculptures are self-adorned, attesting to the tendency to place appearance above comfort.
